[25/11/2022] The Death of the Scholars is a Calamity Upon the Ummah – By Abu Hakeem Bilāl Davis حفظه الله. Khutbah at Masjid As-Salafi, Birmingham, UK.
Some points discussed during this Khutbah:
- The death of a scholar is a calamity that affects the entire ummah.
- The meaning of the verse, “See they not that We gradually reduce the land from its outlying borders?”
- The death of the ‘ulamā is a depletion of the earth.
- Ka’b b. Aḥbār (رحمه الله) on two reasons why the earth cries.
- Mujāhid (رحمه الله) on the statement of Allāh, “And the heavens and the earth wept not for them…” [Sūrah ad-Dukhān 44:29]
- Ḥasan al-Baṣrī (رحمه الله) on the unfillable gap left due to the death of the ‘ulamā.
- Books can never replace the scholars.
- Understanding how great of a calamity the death of a scholars is, especially in the time we live in.
- The statement of Ibn ‘Abbās at the grave of Zayd b. Thābit (رضى الله عنهما) regarding the burial of knowledge.
- Salmān al-Fārisī (رضى الله عنه) on what will cause the destruction of the people.
- The reason the ‘ulamā constantly remind with seeking knowledge.
- ‘Abdullāh b. Mas’ūd’s (رضى الله عنه) encouragement to cling to knowledge.
