  • The path to Allāh is one and has been made clear.
  • A statement from Fuḍayl b. ‘Iyāḍ oft-quoted by Shaykh ‘Ubayd (رحمهم الله).
  • The meaning of fasād.
  • Āyāt that mention fasād.
  • Textual evidence from the Qur’ān and Sunnah regarding the causes of corruption upon the earth:
  • 1. A corrupted heart.
  • The emphasis on the rectification of the heart, and examples of supplications from the Sunnah in this regard.
  • 2. Not hastening to marry your daughter to the one whose character and dīn you are pleased with.
  • 3. Not rectifying between the people when resentment and corruption comes between them.
  • 4. Open fāḥishah, cheating in the scales and measures, withholding zakāh, beaking the covenant with Allāh and the Messenger ﷺ, and rulers who do not judge by the Book of Allāh.
  • 5. Partaking in usury, holding on to the tails of cattle, becoming satisfied with cultivation and abandoning jihād.
  • 6. Siḥr (magic).
  • Proof from the Qur’ān that siḥr is kufr.
  • A warning against going to those who claim to cure magic by working with “good jinns”.
  • 7. Blind following what your forefathers were upon.
  • The necessity of employing wisdom when addressing our relatives in this regard.
  • 8. Yearning for wealth and status.
  • An illustration of the great harm upon the dīn of the one who seeks wealth and status. 
  • The Salaf’s dislike of being known. 
  • Two things that grow old with the son of Ādam.
  • Al-A’mash (رحمه الله) on the āyah, “And thus We do make the ẓālimūn (oppressors) awliyā’ (supporters and helpers) one to another, because of that which they used to earn.” [Sūrah al-An’ām 6:129]
  • Concealing the sins of our brothers and sisters, and not searching for the faults of the people.
