[17/01/2024] The Believer to Another Believer Is Like a Building, Each (Part) Supports the Other – By Abu Inaayah Seif حفظه الله. Lesson at Masjid Salafi, Small Heath, Birmingham, UK.

- Benefits from the ḥadīth, “The believer to another believer is like one building, each part strengthens and supports the other part.”
- A profound statement from Imām Ibn Bāz (رحمه الله) regarding the meaning of this hadith and the fruits of implementing it.
- Understanding the connection/bond Allāh has placed between the believers.
- Imām as-Sa’dī (رحمه الله) on the āyah, “The believers are but brothers (to one another in Islām)…” [Sūrah al-Ḥujurāt 49:10]

- 1. He wants for his brother the same good he desires for himself.
- 2. He ensures that he fulfils the rights of his brother and not just demand his rights.
- Six rights of a Muslim over another Muslim.
- 3. He advises him and also accepts his advice.
- A similitude from Ibn Taymiyyah (رحمه الله) highlighting that roughness/harshness is sometimes needed.
- Ibn Qudāmah (رحمه الله) on when to use gentleness and when sternness is required.
- Fuḍayl b. ‘Iyāḍ (رحمه الله) on the one who has betrayed his brother.
- 4. He makes du’ā for him.
- The virtue of supplicating for your brother in his absence.
- A supplication for the Companions by those who came after them, as mentioned in the Qur’ān.
- 5. His heart is free from harbouring hatred or ill feelings towards his brother.
- Diseases the heart should be free from.
- 6. He aids his brother and conceals his faults.
- The reward on Yawmul-Qiyāmah for the one who aided his believing brother and concealed his faults.
- An example of aiding one’s brother.
- Imām as-Sa’dī (رحمه الله) on the āyah, “And if they intend to deceive you, then verily, Allāh is All-Sufficient for you. He it is Who has supported you with His Help and with the believers.” [Sūrah an-Anfāl 8:62]
- 7. He does not oppress, deceive, betray or belittle him.
- 8. He has good thoughts of his brother.
- Clarification from Imām Ibn Bāz (رحمه الله) regarding the obligation of having good thoughts of one’s brother and when it is permissible to have bad thoughts and suspicions.
- A tremendous narration from ‘Umar b. al-Khaṭṭāb (رضى الله عنه) regarding judging people based on their public actions.
- Commentary from Imām Ibn Bāz (رحمه الله) regarding this narration.
- Benefits from Ibn Kathīr and al-Qurṭubī (رحمهم الله) regarding the story of the Ifk mentioned in Sūrah an-Nūr.
- 9. He defends his honour.
- The reward for defending your brother’s honour.
- Ḥasan al-Baṣrī (رحمه الله) on the relationship between the believer and his believing brother.
- 10. He has affection, mercy and empathy towards him.
- The similitude of the believers in their mutual kindness, compassion and empathy towards each other.
- Imām as-Sa’dī (رحمه الله) on the āyah, “And lower your wing to the believer.” [al-Ḥijr 15:88]
- 11. He is gentle with him, pardons and seeks forgiveness for him, and consults him.
