All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all creation—and may He extol the Messenger in the highest company of Angels, and grant him peace and security—likewise to his family, Companions, and true followers.
[26/01/2024] Six Ways To Attain Firmness (Thabāt) In Your Religion – By Abu Khadeejah ‘Abdul Wahid حفظه الله. Khutbah at Masjid Salafi, Small Heath, Birmingham, UK.
Some points discussed during this Khutbah:
- The importance of learning the means that will enable us to remain steadfast upon the dīn.
- Trials and tribulations faced by the Muslims, especially the youth in the time and lands we live in.
- Glad tidings for the strangers.
- Six means that bring about firmness and salvation from the fire:
- 1. Learning the religion and acting upon what we learn.
- The guidance and safety of the Sunnah.
- 2. True īmān in Allāh and righteous deeds.
- Qatādah and Ibn Kathīr (رحمهم الله) on the meaning of the āyah, “Allāh will keep firm those who believe, with the word that stands firm in this world and in the Hereafter. And Allāh will cause to go astray those who are ẓālimūn (polytheists and wrongdoers, etc.), and Allāh does what He wills.” [Sūrah Ibrāhīm 14:27]
- Those who will be granted firmness and the ability to answer the questions of Munkar and Nakīr and those who will not be granted that.
- Righteous deeds each and every one of us can perform throughout the day to keep us firm upon the dīn of Allāh.
- 3. Keeping away from sins and acts of disobedience through the company of the righteous from amongst the Salafiyyīn.
- Qatādah b. Di’āmah (رحمه الله) on keeping company with the righteous.
- Al-A’mash (رحمه الله) on the three questions the Salaf would ask about a person.
- A warning against isolating oneself away from the jamā’ah.
- Abū Dharr (رضى الله عنه) on the nine matters the Messenger ﷺ advised him with.
- 4. Making du’ā for Allāh to protect our hearts from misguidance.
- The du’ā of those firmly grounded in knowledge.
- The supplication oft-repeated by the Messenger ﷺ.
- 5. Inviting others to obey Allāh and His Messenger ﷺ.
- Making sure that our actions do not contradict our statements.
- Āyāt regarding the firmness of the one who calls to Allāh.
- 6. Patience in times of trials and afflictions.
- The gift of patience.
- Abū Tha’labah al-Khushanī (رضى الله عنه) on the understanding of the āyah, “O you who believe! Take care of your own selves. If you follow the right guidance no hurt can come to you from those who are in error.” [Sūrah al-Mā’idah 5:105]
- The example of the Prophet ﷺ in reminding his Companions to be patient.
