All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all creation—and may He extol the Messenger in the highest company of Angels, and grant him peace and security—likewise to his family, Companions, and true followers.

[15/03/2024] Ramaḍān: The Month of the Qur’ān & Reflecting upon it – By Abu ‘Inaayah Seif حفظه الله. Khutbah at Masjid As-Sunnah An-Nabawiyyah, Aston, Birmingham, UK.

Some points discussed during this Khuṭbah:

  • The blessing of witnessing the month Ramaḍān.
  • Some of the characteristics of this blessed month. 
  • The Prophet ﷺ said, “In Jannah there is a gate which is called Ar-Raiyān through which only those who fast will enter on the Day of Resurrection. None else will enter through it. It will be called out, “Where are those who observe fasting?” So they will stand up and proceed towards it. When the last of them will have entered, the gate will be closed and then no one will enter through that gate.” [Muslim]
  • Ḥadith Qudsī: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said, “Allāh – The Mighty and Majestic – said: ‘Every act of the son of Ādam is for him, except fasting, which is for Me, and I will reward him for it…” [Bukhārī and Muslim]
  • The Prophet ﷺ said, “He who observes fasting during the month of Ramaḍān with firm belief (Imān) while anticipating its reward from Allāh, will have his past sins forgiven.” [Bukhārī and Muslim]
  • يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ 
  • {O you who believe! Observing As-Saum (the fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqûn.} [Al-Baqarah: 183]
  • The definition of Taqwā by ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ūd رضي الله عنه 
  • Are we utilising these blessed days?
  • Allāh has no need for the fasting of His servant.
  • Ramaḍān, the month of the Qur’ān. 
  • Ibn Al-Qayyim رحمه الله: “The Qur’ān, a guide for the hearts of the servants…”
  • Imām As-Sa’dī رحمه الله profound words upon pondering over the Qur’ān.
  • The “locks” that are placed upon the hearts.
  • Ibn Al-Qayyim رحمه الله: “Nothing more beneficial for the hearts…”
  • إِن تُعَذِّبْهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ عِبَادُكَ ۖ وَإِن تَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ فَإِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ 
  • {If You punish them, they are Your slaves, and if You forgive them, verily You, only You, are the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.}[Al-Ma’idah: 118]
