[19/01/2024] Lesson 9: The Right of The Prophet ﷺ – Examples from the Salaf in Respecting and Honouring the Messenger ﷺ – By Abu Idrees Muhammad Khān حفظه الله. Weekly lesson at Masjid Salafi, Small Heath, Birmingham, UK.
Some points discussed during this lesson:
- The fourth matter: Examples from the Salaf, the Companions, the Tābi’īn and those who followed them regarding revering the Messenger ﷺ [cont’d].
- 2. ‘Umar b. al-Khaṭṭāb’s (رضى الله عنه) clarification regarding why he kissed the black stone.
- Imām aṭ-Tabarī (رحمه الله) on the reason why ‘Umar made this clarification.
- Some points of benefit from al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥajar (رحمه الله) regarding this narration.
- 3. ‘Alī b. Abī Ṭālib’s (رضى الله عنه) firm stance that he will not abandon the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ for anyone’s statement.
- The reason ‘Alī held that doing Ḥajj at-Tamattu’ was better.
- Shaykh ‘Arafāt (حفظه الله) on the position held by ‘Uthmān and ‘Umar (رضى الله عنهما).
- The reason there was differing among some of the Companions in this affair.
- 4. ‘Abdullāh b. ‘Abbās’ (رضى الله عنه) warning against innovation in the religion.
- His response to Ṭāwūs (رحمه الله) when he said he will not leave off praying two rak’āt after the ‘Asr prayer.
- 5. ‘Abdullāh b.Mas’ūd (رضى الله عنه) on the sufficiency of the Sunnah.
- 6. ‘Abdullāh b. Mas’ūd (رضى الله عنه) on moderation upon the Sunnah.
- 7. ‘Abdullāh b. ‘Umar (رضى الله عنهما) on attaining completeness by following the Sunnah.
- 8. ‘Abdullāh b. ‘Umar’s (رضى الله عنهما) response to Qaz’ah (رحمه الله) when he asked him about embarking upon a journey to aṭ-Ṭūr (Mt. Sinai).
- Imām al-Baghawī (رحمه الله) on Mt. Sinai.
- The location of Mt. Sinai.
- 9. ‘Abdullāh b. ‘Umar’s (رضى الله عنهما) staunch adherence to the Sunnah and not going beyond what the Messenger ﷺ taught the Companions.
- 10. Abū Ṭalḥah an-Anṣārī’s (رضى الله عنه) willingness to be struck by arrows in order to protect the Messenger ﷺ in the Battle of Uḥud.
- 11. ‘Umar b. ‘Abdul-‘Azīz (رحمه الله) on the Sunnah being a protection from all forms of error, by the Permission of Allāh.
- 12. Az-Zuhrī (رحمه الله) on the cause of steadfastness upon the dīn and stability in the dunyā.
- Reflecting upon the passing of our ‘ulamā and the removal of knowledge.
- Encouragement to increase in seeking knowledge in order to survive the fitan and evil that are to come.
