[06/01/2024] Lesson 7: The Right of The Prophet ﷺ – Love of the Prophet ﷺ – By Abu Idrees Muhammad Khān حفظه الله. Weekly lesson at Masjid Salafi, Small Heath, Birmingham, UK.

Some points discussed during this lesson:

  • The second matter: Proof from the Sunnah regarding the obligation of loving the Messenger ﷺ. 
  • Three conclusive aḥadīth regarding the obligation of loving the Messenger ﷺ more than ourselves, parents, children and all of mankind. 
  • Imām Ibn Rajab (رحمه الله) on completing one’s īmān by putting the love of the Messenger ﷺ before the love of any of the creation.
  • Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥajar (رحمه الله) on the benefit that comes about by way of loving the Messenger ﷺ. 
  • Signs of loving the Messenger ﷺ:
  • 1. Desiring to see him and yearning to meet him ﷺ.
  • 2. Following him and traversing upon his Sunnah ﷺ. 
  • 3. Loving those whom he ﷺ loved.
  • 4. Loving his Companions (رضى الله عنهم). 
  • Proof from the Sunnah regarding having love for the Companions.
  • The Fourth Right: The Obligation to Aid, Venerate and Revere Him ﷺ
  • Allāh’s command to aid and honour the Messenger ﷺ. 
  • The first matter: The meaning of at-Ta’zīr. 
  • Ibn Taymiyyah’s (رحمه الله) definition of at-Ta’zīr. 
  • Ibn Jarīr (رحمه الله) on the meaning of at-Tawqīr.
  • A benefit regarding what we should do if we do not understand something when seeking knowledge. 
  • The second matter: A mention of some instances of revering and respecting the Prophet ﷺ in his lifetime.
  • 1. The impermissibility of speaking before the Messenger ﷺ up until he gives permission, and its evidence from the Qur’ān.  
  • 2. The impermissibility of raising one’s voice above the voice of the Messenger ﷺ, and its evidence from the Qur’ān.
  • The story of how Thābit b. Qays (رضى الله عنه) was deeply affected by the revelation of this āyah (Sūrah al-Ḥujurāt 49:2).
