Two Times of Joy for the Fasting Person – By Abu Fuḍayl ‘Abdur Raqīb

Abu Fuḍayl ‘Abdur Raqīb

All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all creation—and may He extol the Messenger in the highest company of Angels, and grant him peace and security—likewise to his family, Companions, and true followers.

[15/03/2024] Two Times of Joy for the Fasting Person – By Abu Fuḍayl ‘Abdur Raqīb حفظه الله. Khutbah at Masjid Salafi, Small Heath, Birmingham, UK.

Some points discussed during this Khuṭbah:

  • Benefits from the hadīth, “Every good deed of the son of Ādam will be multiplied manifold. A good deed will be multiplied ten times up to as many as seven hundred times, or as much as Allāh wills. Allāh says: ‘Except for fasting, which is for Me and I shall reward it. He gives up his desire and his food for My sake.’ The fasting person has two times of joy, one when he breaks his fast and another when he meets his Lord. The smell that comes from the mouth of a fasting person is better with Allāh than the fragrance of musk.”
  • The excellence of the fast in the sight of Allāh.
  • Clarification regarding the wisdoms, objectives and goals of fasting, and the befitting, noble manners attached to it.
  • The multiplication of good deeds.
  • The vast mercy and favour of Allāh in how He recompenses His slaves for good and evil deeds.
  • How sincerity and the strength of a person’s īmān cause his reward to be multiplied.
  • The pure, bountiful reward for fasting that cannot be imagined and is not rivalled by any other action.
  • The reason Allāh has specified fasting for Himself.
  • The ecstasy of the believer when he receives the reward for fasting.
