[26th October 2019] Ibn Taymiyyah & Ibn Al-Qayyim On The Causes of Corruption, Ruin & Rectification – Lecture by Abu Iyaad Amjad Rafiq حفظه الله. Masjid Abi Hurairah Conference.

- Two key things every individual and nation is concerned about, and āyāt from the Qur’ān in this regard.
- Āyāt that explain what moves a nation from prosperity and security to poverty and living in fear.
- Statements from the Salaf regarding the āyah, “Corruption has appeared on land and sea because of what the hands of men have earned, that Allāh may make them taste a part of that which they have done, in order that they may return.” [Sūrah ar-Rūm 30:41]
- Remnants of the punishments of the previous nations.

- How Allāh, through His Wisdom and Justice, shows the people their deeds.
- The outcome of breaking the covenant of Allāh and His Messenger ﷺ.

- An example that highlights how you can destroy people’s lives when you cannot distinguish between a symptom and a cause.
- Ibn al-Qayyim (رحمه الله) on how the rulers are a manifestation of the actions of the people.
- Mu’ādh b. Jabal (رضى الله عنه) on the appointing of the amīr being from the affairs of Allāh.
- The implication of reviling the ruler.
- Abū Bakr Muḥammad aṭ-Ṭarṭūshī (رحمه الله) on the statement, “As you yourselves behave, you will be ruled over in a like manner.”
