All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all creation—and may He extol the Messenger in the highest company of Angels, and grant him peace and security—likewise to his family, Companions, and true followers.
[06/10/2023] Calamity: When The Scholars Pass Away and The Speakers Take Over – By Abu Khadeejah ‘Abdul Wahid حفظه الله. Khutbah at Masjid Salafi, Small Heath, Birmingham, UK.
Some points discussed during this Khutbah:
- Benefits from the athar of Abū Dharr al-Ghifārī رضى الله عنه (elevated as the saying of the Prophet ﷺ), “You are living in an age of many scholars and few speakers, so whoever leaves off a tenth of what he knows is destroyed. And there will come a time when there are many speakers and a few scholars, so whoever clings to a tenth of what he knows in that time is saved.”
- The blessing of having many scholars, and that which occurs when the scholars are few.
- A distinguishing sign of Ahlus-Sunnah.
- Imām al-Barbahārī, Qutaybah b. Sa’īd and Abū Ḥātim ar-Rāzī (رحمهم الله) on how to determine if a person is from Ahlus-Sunnah or Ahlul-Bid’ah.
- A distinguishing sign of Ahlul-Bid’ah.
- How the jamā’ah and the truth are measured.
- The response of Anas b. Mālik (رضى الله عنه) when the people complained to him about the oppression and tyranny of Ḥajjāj b. Yūsuf.
- Ibn Mas’ūd (رضى الله عنه) on the reason why each day is worse than the day that preceded it.
- The necessity of holding on to what we know and being wary of the callers to misguidance.
