Advice From The Panel: Uways At-Ṭaweel – Abu ‘Iyād – Ḥasan Ṣomālī – Abdulilah Lahmami – Abu Idrees – Masjid As-Sunnah Mini Conference 2024

[24/02/2024] Advice From The Panel: Uways At-Ṭaweel – Abu ‘Iyād – Ḥasan Ṣomālī – Abdulilah Lahmami – Abu Idrees حفظهم الله – Masjid As-Sunnah Mini Conference 2024.

Some points discussed:

Uways At-Ṭaweel 

  • Seeking ‘izzah (honour/status) from Allāh.  
  • Adorning ourselves with ikhlāṣ and ṣidq.

Abū Iyāḍ

  • Four short, easy du’ās that should be memorised. 
  • 1. رَّبِّ زِدْنِى عِلْمًا “My Lord, increase me in knowledge.’” [Sūrah ṬāHā 20:114]
  • 2. The du’ā of ‘Umar b. al-Khaṭṭāb (رضى الله عنه): اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ عَمَلِي صَالِحًا وَاجْعَلْهُ لَكَ خَالِصًا وَلَا تَجْعَلْ لِأَحَدٍ فِيهِ شَيْئًا “O Allāh, make all of my action righteous, and make them for Your sake only, and do not give anyone else a share therein.”
  • 3. اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِنِي وَسَدِّدْنِي “O Allāh guide me and make me upright.”
  • 4. رَبَّنَآ ءَاتِنَا فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِى ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ ٱلنَّارِ “Our Lord! Give us in this world that which is good and in the Hereafter that which is good, and save us from the torment of the Fire!” [Sūrah al-Baqarah 2:201]

Ḥasan Ṣomālī  

  • Reflection upon the growth and development of the da’wah in the English-speaking world in the last few decades.
  • Appreciating and understanding its significance.
  • Being grateful for our teachers, as this is part of thanking Allāh.
  • Avoiding disappointment by not expecting to be thanked by the people. 
  • Not allowing Shayṭān to come between us.

Abdulilah Lahmami

  • Not seeking praise from the people, and the necessity of ikhlāṣ and ittibā’. 
  • The first of those to enter the Fire on the Day of Judgement.
  • Ibn al-Qayyim (رحمه الله) on the severity of a scholar not acting in accordance to his knowledge.
  • Understanding that guidance is a favour from Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) that He can take away at any time if we seek other than Him.
  • The requirement of quality, not quantity.
  • A statement from ‘Umar b. al-Khaṭṭāb (رضى الله عنه) that highlights the importance and value of being upon the obedience of Allāh.

Abū Idrees

  • Remembering and thanking the scholars and students of knowledge who were instrumental in aiding the da’wah over the decades.
  • Recognising the virtue of our teachers over us, and nurturing our youth upon this.
  • A call to build and not be obstacles to building.
  • The great achievement of taqwā, and its amazing fruits.
  • Dhun-Nūn al-Miṣrī (رحمه الله) on three things the scholars would advise with.
  • ‘Abdullāh b. al-Mubārak (رحمه الله) on the virtue of seeking knowledge for the sake of Allāh and the consequence of doing so for other than Him (سبحانه وتعالى).
