All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all creation—and may He extol the Messenger in the highest company of Angels, and grant him peace and security—likewise to his family, Companions, and true followers.
[16/06/2024] The Three Foundations of Sins – By Uways At-Ṭaweel حفظه الله. ‘Eid Al-Aḍḥā, East London, UK.
Some points discussed during this Khuṭbah:
- Being grateful to Allāh and using the tools He has given us to carry out that which is pleasing to Him.
- Ibn al-Qayyim (رحمه الله) on the three fundamentals of sins.
- 1. al-Kibr (arrogance)
- A warning against following the stubbornness and arrogance of Iblīs.
- The arrogance of the people of Nūḥ (عليه السلام) when he called them to the forgiveness of Allāh, which lead to their destruction.
- Diversion from guidance due to arrogance.
- 2. al-Ḥirs (eagerness for the dunyā)
- The affair that took Ādam out of Paradise, and Shayṭān’s plotting against him and his wife (عليهم السلام).
- The only thing that will satisfy a person’s yearning for the dunyā.
- ‘Uthmān b. ‘Affān’s (رضى الله عنه) advice to the people when they pledged allegiance to him.
- 3. al-Ḥasad (destructive envy)
- That which lead the son of Ādam to oppress his brother.
- The only deeds accepted by Allāh.
- The origin of ḥasad.
- How a person’s good deeds are destroyed by ḥasad.
- How ḥasad stops a person from doing good deeds.
- The impermissibility of hating your Muslim brother or sister.
- Loving the people of Tawḥīd and Sunnah and putting Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) and His Messenger ﷺ above our desires.
