Abu Fuḍayl ‘Abdur Raqīb

All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all creation—and may He extol the Messenger in the highest company of Angels, and grant him peace and security—likewise to his family, Companions, and true followers.

[02/01/2026] The Prohibition of Speaking about Allāh and His Messenger ﷺ without Knowledge – Abu Fuḍayl ‘Abdur Raqīb حفظه الله. Khuṭbah at Masjid Salafi, Small Heath, Birmingham, UK.

Some points discussed during this Khuṭbah

– “Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. It is only a Revelation revealed.” [Sūrah an-Najm 53:3-4]

– The great sin of speaking about Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى), the Messenger ﷺ and the dīn without knowledge.

– “Say (O Muḥammad ﷺ): ‘(But) the things that my Lord has indeed forbidden are al-Fawāḥish (great evil sins, every kind of unlawful sexual intercourse, etc.) whether committed openly or secretly, sins (of all kinds), unrighteous oppression, joining partners (in worship) with Allāh for which He has given no authority, and saying things about Allah of which you have no knowledge.’” [Sūrah al-A’rāf 7:33]

– “And say not concerning that which your tongues put forth falsely: ‘This is lawful and this is forbidden,’ so as to invent lies against Allāh. Verily, those who invent lies against Allah will never prosper.” [Sūrah an-Naḥl 16:116]

– Aḥādīth on the severity of lying about the Messenger ﷺ.

– “They will bear their own burdens in full on the Day of Resurrection, and also of the burdens of those whom they misled without knowledge. Evil indeed is that which they shall bear!” [Sūrah an-Naḥl 16:25]

– The recompense for those who issued fatāwā without knowledge.

– Those fit to speak about affairs of the dīn and issue fatāwā.

– Examples from Imām Mālik (رحمه الله) that highlight the weightiness of speaking about the dīn of Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى).

– How a person can be in error even if he is correct due to speaking about the Book of Allāh without knowledge.

– Abū Bakr’s (رضى الله عنه) fear of speaking about the Book of Allāh without knowledge.

– Caution against putting ourselves and others to trial by speaking about the dīn of Allāh without knowledge.
