All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all creation—and may He extol the Messenger in the highest company of Angels, and grant him peace and security—likewise to his family, Companions, and true followers.
[20/06/2025] Sins are the Reason for Natural Disasters, Trials and Tribulations – By Abu Fuḍayl ‘Abdur Raqī حفظه الله. Khuṭbah at Masjid As-Sunnah An-Nabawiyyah, Aston, Birmingham, UK.
Some points discussed during this Khuṭbah:
– Verily, We sent Messengers to many nations before you (O Muhammad). And We seized them with extreme poverty and loss in health with calamities so that they might believe with humility.
When Our Torment reached them, why then did they not believe with humility? But their hearts became hardened, and Shaitan made fair-seeming to them that which they used to do. Surah Anfal 6:42-43
– Explanation of the above verses by Shaykh Muqbil.
– “And let not those who disbelieve think that they can outstrip (escape from the punishment). Verily, they will never be able to save themselves (from Allah’s Punishment).” Surah Anfal 8:59
– Sins are the cause for calamities and fitnah tribulations on earth.
– Example of previous nations and the punishments that Allah sent down upon them.
– The necessity to thank Allah and be grateful especially in these disbelieving lands, Allah has withheld the punishment such as tornadoes etc.
– “If you give thanks, I will give you more…” Surah Ibrahim 14:7
– Story of Sheba and how the people turned away from obedience of Allah and the punishment that ensued.
– “And whatever of misfortune befalls you, it is because of what your hands have earned. And He pardons much.” Surah Shura 42:35
– The real reasons for the “natural disasters.”
– Narrations mentioning the virtues of Yemen and its people.
– Allah’s blessing and the safety can be replaced with hardship and difficulties.
