[27/09/2025] On That Day One Will Flee From Their Brother and Mother and Father and Wife and Children – By Sh ‘Abdulilah Lahmami حفظه الله. Masjid As-Sunnah An-Nabawiyyah, Aston, Birmingham, UK.
Some points discussed:
– “O man, verily, you are labouring (with your deeds) towards your Lord with a sure return (to Him), and then you will meet Him (with your deeds, good or evil).” [Sūrah al-Inshiqāq 84:6]
– Ibn al-Qayyim (رحمه الله) on the destructive nature of sins.
– “O you who have believed, fear Allāh. And let every soul look to what it has put forth for tomorrow…” [Sūrah al-Ḥashr 59:18]
– Preparing for our inevitable meeting with Allāh.
– “(That will be) the Day a man will flee from his brother. And (from) his mother and his father. And (from) his wife and his children.” [Sūrah ‘Abasa 80:34-36]
– Statements from al-Qurtubī, as-Sa’dī and Ibn ‘Uthaymīn (رحمهم الله) explaining the reason a man will run away from his close relatives on that Day.
– The tafsīr of Ibn ‘Abbās (رضى الله عنهما) on the aforementioned verses as it relates to the Prophets and Messengers (عليهم الصلاة والسلام).
– The two categories of people on the Day of Judgement.
– Refutation of the Sūfīs who claim it is allowed to seek aid from the dead.
– The great responsibility we have towards our families.
– Caution against matters that lead to ḥarām.
– Living a life of Tawḥīd and Sunnah.
– The superiority of the ākhirah over the dunyā.
– “Thereof (the earth) We created you, and into it We shall return you, and from it We shall bring you out once again.” [Sūrah Ṭā Hā 20:55]
– Imām ash-Shawkānī (رحمه الله) on the verse, “O mankind! Be afraid of your Lord (by keeping your duty to Him and avoiding all evil), and fear a Day when no father can avail aught for his son, nor a son avail aught for his father.” [Sūrah Luqmān 31:33]
– Sincere repentance to Allāh.
– “They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children, and his wife and his brother, and his kindred who sheltered him, and whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him.” [Sūrah al-Ma’ārij 70:11-14]
– The certainty of death and the closeness of the Hour.
– Attributes beloved to Allāh that earn His aid.
– The necessity of giving importance to the prayer.
– “There is none in the heavens and the earth but comes unto the Most Beneficent (Allāh) as a slave.” [Sūrah Maryam 19:93]
– The grave consequences of insincerity.
– Resolving to make changes now and be from those who rush to do good deeds.
– Contrasting the desire of the kuffār to live forever in this dunyā and their desperate request to be destroyed in the hellfire due to the punishment.
