Ḥassan Ṣomālī

All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all creation—and may He extol the Messenger in the highest company of Angels, and grant him peace and security—likewise to his family, Companions, and true followers.

[11/08/2023] O Changer of the Hearts, Make My Heart Firm Upon Your Religion – By Ḥassan Ṣomālī (حفظه الله) (حفظه الله) – SalafiPublications Summer Conference 1445 | 2023. Masjid Salafi, Small Heath, Birmingham, UK.

Some points covered by Ḥassan Ṣomālī حفظه الله:

  • The best supplications.
  • The need for every Muslim to memorise a du’ā the Messenger ﷺ would frequently say: «يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِى عَلَى دِينِكَ» O Changer of the hearts! Make my heart firm upon Your religion.
  • The importance of focusing on purifying our hearts.
  • The baseless addition to this du’ā that is common upon the tongues of the people.
  • The response of the Prophet ﷺ when Umm Salamah (رضى الله عنها) asked why he supplicated with this du’ā so frequently.
  • The connection between this du’ā of the Prophet ﷺ and the verse, “(They say): ‘Our Lord! Let not our hearts deviate (from the truth) after You have guided us, and grant us mercy from You. Truly, You are the Bestower.’” [Sūrah Āli ‘Imrān 3:8]
  • Being humble and respecting the efforts of those who came before.
  • The difference between possessing knowledge/information and being deeply rooted in knowledge.
  • Shaykh as-Sa’dī (رحمه الله) on seven qualities for which Allāh praises those firmly grounded in knowledge:
  • 1. Knowledge, which is the path that leads to Allāh.
  • 2. Being deeply rooted in knowledge, which is more than just possessing knowledge/having information.
  • 3. They have īmān (faith) in all of His Book and they return the unclear parts of it to the clear parts.
  • 4. They ask Allāh for His Pardon and wellbeing from that which the deviants have been tested and trialed with.
  • 5. They recognise and acknowledge Allāh’s Favour upon them as He granted them guidance.
  • 6. They ask Allāh for His Mercy, which comprises the attainment of all that is good and protection from all that is evil and they draw nearer to Him through His Name Al-Wahhāb.
  • 7. Their faith and certainty in the Day of Resurrection and their fear of it, which is an incumbent requirement for them to act and protect themselves from error and misguidance.
  • Fearing for ourselves when we see people deviate.
  • Following the example of the Salaf in making du’ā for our teachers.
  • Clarification from Imām al-Baghawī (رحمه الله) that the servant controls nothing as it relates to his happiness, misery or guidance.
  • Shaykh Muqbil (رحمه الله) on the reason for the spread of the da’wah of Ahlus-Sunnah.
  • The manner in which the People of Jannah will praise Allāh.
  • Our great need for Allāh to make us firm upon His religion.
  • The verse about which the Jews said if it was revealed to them they would have taken it as a day of celebration.
  • Not changing the dīn for anyone.
