“Help Your Brother Whether He is The Oppressor or The Oppressed!” – By Abu Fuḍayl ‘Abdur Raqīb

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحِيمِ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ، أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏”‏ انْصُرْ أَخَاكَ ظَالِمًا أَوْ مَظْلُومًا ‏”‏‏.‏ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَنْصُرُهُ إِذَا كَانَ مَظْلُومًا، أَفَرَأَيْتَ إِذَا كَانَ ظَالِمًا كَيْفَ أَنْصُرُهُ قَالَ ‏”‏ تَحْجُزُهُ أَوْ تَمْنَعُهُ مِنَ الظُّلْمِ، فَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ نَصْرُهُ ‏”‏‏.‏

Narrated Anas رضي الله عنه: Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “Help your brother whether he is an oppressor or an oppressed,” A man said, “O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)! I will help him if he is oppressed, but if he is an oppressor, how shall I help him?” The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “By preventing him from oppressing (others), for that is how to help him.”

Sahih al-Bukhari 6952

• Guidance from the Messenger ﷺ regarding how to behave when oppression/injustice is taking place.
• The Prophet’s ﷺ redefinition of a well-known statement of the Arabs in Jāhiliyyah from one of evil to one of good.
• A warning against ta’aṣṣub.
• Benefits from the ḥadīth, “Aid your brother whether he is the oppressor or the oppressed.”
• Oppression will be darkness on the Day of Judgement. 
• The meaning of ‘dhulm’, and its types.
• A ḥadīth that highlights the inescapable reality that every injustice will be taken to account on the Day of Judgement.
