All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all creation—and may He extol the Messenger in the highest company of Angels, and grant him peace and security—likewise to his family, Companions, and true followers.

Some points discussed during this Khuṭbah:

– An influential means by which the Shayṭān traps the son of Ādam. 

– “And whoever is removed away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise, he indeed is successful. The life of this world is only the enjoyment of deception (a deceiving thing).” [Sūrah Āli ‘Imrān 3:185]

– The reason the term زحزح is used in this āyah.  

– The response of Abū Hurayrah (رضى الله عنه) when he was invited to a feast. 

– ‘Ā’ishah (رضى الله عنها) on the family of the Messenger ﷺ not reaching their fill. 

– A statement from the Messenger ﷺ that encourages his ummah to be detached from the dunyā.

– ‘Abdullāh b. Mas’ūd (رضى الله عنه) on what entails true tranquility for the believer. 

– ‘Alī b. Abī Ṭālib (رضى الله عنه) on trials being easy upon the one who abstains from the dunyā. 

– Using trials to implement acts of worship. 

– Asking ourselves: Is the dunyā worth it?

– Advice from Abī Dardā’ (رضى الله عنه) on cherishing brotherhood. 

– The blessing of brotherhood. 

– Ḥasan al-Baṣrī (رحمه الله) on the reality of the dunyā being exposed by death. 

– Studying and implementing how the Messenger ﷺ, his Companions (رضى الله عنهم) and the Salaf (رحمهم الله) were with the dunyā.
