All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all creation—and may He extol the Messenger in the highest company of Angels, and grant him peace and security—likewise to his family, Companions, and true followers.

The Benefits of Dhikr – By Abū Ṭalḥah Dawood Burbank رحمه الله. A short lesson based upon the introduction of Ibnul Qayyim’s book ‘Waabilus Sayyib min al Kalimit Ṭayyib’. Although the lecture was short in length, its benefits are tremendous, May Allāh have mercy upon our noble brother, and teacher Abu Ṭalḥah and his wife.

Some points discussed during this lesson:

– What is intended by the term dhikr.

– Restricting dhikr to what has been reported in the Book of Allāh and authentic Sunnah of the Messenger ﷺ. 

– Benefits of Dhikr of Allāh:

1. It repels and subdues the Shayṭān.

2. It pleases the Most Merciful.

3. It removes concerns and worries from a person’s heart.

4. It brings about happiness, joy and cheerfulness for the heart.

5. It strengthens the heart and the body.

6. It gives light to a person’s face and heart.

7. It brings about provision for a person.

8. It clothes a person with respect and gives him delight. 

9. It brings about Allāh’s Love. 

10. It results in a person becoming vigilant regarding his Lord, which leads him to al-Iḥsān.

11. Al-Inābah (frequently returning to Allāh).

12. Nearness to Allāh.

13. It opens up the tremendous door of ma’rifah (knowledge and awareness). 

14. Al-Haybah (fear, awe and veneration of Allāh).

15. Allāh remembers the one who remembers Him.

16. It brings about life of the heart.

17. It is the food of the heart.

18. It polishes and cleans the heart from any rust or stain upon it. 

19. It removes sins.

20. It removes any estrangement between the servant and his Lord.

21. A person will be remembered (by Allāh) in his times of difficulty.

22. Rescue from the punishment of Allāh.

23. It is a cause for tranquility, being covered by Allāh’s Mercy and being surrounded by the angels.

24. It preoccupies the servant away from evil, useless and vain speech.

25. The gatherings where Allāh is mentioned and remembered are gatherings for the angels.

26. It brings happiness and well-being to the person and those who sit with him.

27. It safeguards a person from regret on the Day of Resurrection.

28. Remembering Allāh along with weeping in private is a cause for being shaded by Allāh. 

29. A person is given the best of things that Allāh gives to those who make requests of Him.

30. It is the easiest, yet greatest, of the forms of worship.

31. Trees are planted for the person in Paradise.

32. There are great gifts and grants exclusive to the one who remembers Allāh.
