Abu 'Abdir-Raḥmān Hilāl

All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all creation—and may He extol the Messenger in the highest company of Angels, and grant him peace and security—likewise to his family, Companions, and true followers.

– Allah does not love those who waste in extravagance.
– {But spend not wastefully (your wealth) in the manner of a spendthrift. Verily, spendthrifts are brothers of the Shayatin} [Surah al-Isra: 26-27].
– The many appearances of extravagance.
– Being careless and wasteful with food and drink.
– Examples of how the Sahābah would live.
– Prohibition of being wasteful, using the example of the hadith regarding using water excessively for wuḍu.
– Extravagance in pleasing the people while disobeying Allāh.
– Excessiveness in sins and disobedience to Allāh kills the heart and one’s Eemān.
– {Say: “O ‘Ibadi (My slaves) who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah, verily Allah forgives all sins. Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful} [Surah al-Zumar: 53].
– {Not a word does he (or she) utter, but there is a watcher by him ready (to record it)} [Surah Qāf: 18].
– Persisting in sins and delaying repentance hardens and seals up the heart.
– Repenting and turning away from sins will allow one to taste the sweetness of obedience.
