
All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all creation—and may He extol the Messenger in the highest company of Angels, and grant him peace and security—likewise to his family, Companions, and true followers.
[11/10/2024] Three Steps to Attain Purification of the Soul – Abu Fuḍayl ‘Abdur Raqīb حفظه الله. Khuṭbah at Masjid Salafi, Small Heath, Birmingham, UK.
Some points discussed during this Khuṭbah:
– Attaining success by way of purification of the soul.
– Ibn Kathīr (رحمه الله) on the āyāt, “But whoever comes to Him (Allāh) as a believer, and has done righteous good deeds, for such are the high ranks (in the Hereafter), ‘Adn Paradise (everlasting Gardens), under which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever: such is the reward of those who purify themselves.” [Sūrah Ṭā Hā 20:75-76]
– Reflecting upon the mention of time and purification of the soul in Sūrah ash-Shams.
– The necessity of Allāh’s aid and guidance in order to achieve purification of the soul.
– Three simple steps to purification of the soul mentioned by the Messenger ﷺ.
– The connection between giving in charity and purification of the soul.
– Imām as-Sa’dī (رحمه الله) on the āyah, “Take ṣadaqah from their wealth in order to purify them and sanctify them with it, and invoke Allāh for them. Verily! Your invocations are a source of security for them, and Allāh is All-Hearer, All-Knower.” [Sūrah at-Tawbah 9:103]
– Adopting the characteristics of pardoning and overlooking.
– Humbling ourselves for Allāh’s sake, and a warning against arrogant pride.
