[16/03/2022] The Means of Remaining Upright Upon the Religion – By Abū Isḥāq Nadīm حفظه الله. Lesson at Markaz Mu’aadh Bin Jabal, Slough, UK.

  • Proof that the only way of life accepted by Allāh is Islām, and His command to enter into Islām wholeheartedly.
  • Concise advice given to Sufyān b. ‘Abdullāh ath-Thaqafī (رضى الله عنه) by the Messenger ﷺ.
  • The command to have istiqāmah upon the dīn of Allāh and the great reward for doing so.
  • Different statements from the Ṣaḥābah regarding the meaning of istiqāmah.
  • The means of attaining istiqāmah and Paradise:

1.Al-Ikhlāṣ

  • Being truthful and sincere in wanting Paradise.
  • The reason Allāh deflected harm and evil from Yūsuf (عليه السلام).

2. Seeking knowledge

  • The meaning of al-Khashyah.
  • Those who truly fear Allāh, and the link between knowledge and fear of Allāh.
  • The reward for those who feared the standing before their Lord. 
  • Allāh’s praise for the people of knowledge.

3. Asking Allāh for guidance

  • Imām as-Sa’dī (رحمه الله) on the meaning of “Guide us to the straight path”.
  • The most comprehensive and beneficial du’ā’ a person is obligated to make.
  • The du’ā’ the Messenger ﷺ would say most often.
  • The example of the heart.

4. Taking ourselves to account and preparing for the meeting with our Lord

  • A beautiful ḥadīth regarding giving for the Sake of Allāh, where a number of āyāt are put into context. 
  • Imām as-Sa’dī (رحمه الله) on the āyah, “As for those who strive hard in Us (Our Cause), We will surely guide them to Our Paths.” [Sūrah al-‘Ankabūt 29:69]
  • Those who are rightly guided.

6. Reading the Qur’ān

  • The effect of frequently reciting the Qur’ān upon the heart.
  • The āyah that caused a thief to repent and later become a great scholar of Islām. 
  • The hardening of the heart due to staying away from the Qur’ān.

7. Remaining in the company of the righteous

  • Allāh’s command to remain patient with those who call upon their Lord.
  • The example of the righteous companion vs the evil companion.

8. Striving to fulfill the obligations then increasing upon that with the nawāfil

  • How to draw closer to Allāh and attain His Love.
  • The fruits of being close to Allāh. 
  • What occurs when Allāh loves a person, and when He hates a person.
