Abu Hakeem Bilāl Davis

All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all creation—and may He extol the Messenger in the highest company of Angels, and grant him peace and security—likewise to his family, Companions and true followers.

[2010] The Greatest Name of Allāh – By حفظه الله. Khutbah at Masjid As-Salafi, Birmingham, UK.

Some points discussed during this Khutbah:

⁃ A mention of false claims and fabricated narrations regarding the Greatest Name of Allāh.
⁃ A weak narration attributed to the Tafsīr of the statement of Allāh, “They followed what the Shayaṭīn (devils) gave out (falsely of the magic) in the lifetime of Sulaymān (Solomon). Sulaymān did not disbelieve, but the Shayaṭīn (devils) disbelieved, teaching men magic and such things that came down at Babylon to the two angels, Hārūt and Marūt…” [Sūrah al-Baqarah 2:102]
⁃ Four positions from the People of Knowledge regarding the Greatest Name of Allāh, and the proof used for each position.
⁃ A discussion by Ibn al-Qayyim (رحمه الله) on why the Greatest Name of Allāh is not one definitive, unchanging Name but is relative to the condition and need of the servant when he is calling upon Allāh.
⁃ A mention of the Names of Allāh relative to the servant based on his condition:
⁃ poverty and need
⁃ weakness
⁃ humility
⁃ regret
⁃ seeking sustenance
⁃ a state of ignorance and seeking correct guidance and understanding
⁃ when on the battlefield
⁃ The great importance of having knowledge of the Names and Attributes of Allāh.
