Tawassul: Seeking A Means Of Nearness To Allaah by Abu Iyaad

Tawassul is seeking a means of nearness to Allaah through supplication to Him by way of His Names, or by way of righteous deeds, or by asking others to supplicate for you. Many sects have gone astray in not understanding that Tawassul through innovated means is not accepted in the Sharee’ah. Sufi and Shi’ite sects, for centuries, have been seeking nearness to Allaah by calling upon the dead, asking them to bring them closer to Allaah – or they ask Allaah in ways not established in the Sunnah such as: “for the sake of your Prophet forgive me” and so on. In this lecture delivered at Masjid Salafi, Birmingham in 2004, Abu Iyaad Amjad Rafiq (hafidhahullaah) explains this important and fundamental subject. May Allaah reward him.
