Some points discussed during this lesson:
- The command of the Prophet ﷺ to pursue that which is beneficial.
- Aḥādīth regarding the virtue of seeking knowledge.
- Recognising the mercy of Allāh upon us and being grateful for the ease we have in seeking knowledge.
- Examples from the People of Knowledge regarding the sacrifices they made in order for this knowledge to reach us.
- Abū Ḥātim ar-Rāzī’s (رحمه الله) recounting of his travels on foot seeking ḥadīth.
- Ibn Kathīr’s (رحمه الله) loss of his eyesight due to writing at night by the light of a flickering lamp.
- Ibn al-Jawzī (رحمه الله) on how the sweetness of seeking knowledge compensated for the hardships he encountered upon that path.
- An example of the honour and dignity of Imām Aḥmad (رحمه الله) when his clothes were stolen in Yemen.
- Hardships endured by Imām al-Bukhārī (رحمه الله) such as having no clothing, money or food.
- The case of Abū Ḥātim (رحمه الله) who sold his clothing and became weak due to hunger in his seeking of knowledge.
- Striking a balance between the worldly affairs and seeking knowledge.
