[13/06/2025] The Obligation of Repaying Debts – By Abu Idrees Muhammad Khān حفظه الله. Khuṭbah at Masjid Salafi, Small Heath, Birmingham, UK.
Some points discussed during this Khuṭbah:
– The importance Islām has given to repaying debts.
– The perfection of our dīn.
– Rules and regulations regarding loaning money mentioned in Sūrah al-Baqarah 2:282.
– Allāh’s instruction to write down the contract.
– Who should dictate what is written.
– Ibn Kathīr (رحمه الله) on the justice of Allāh.
– Documenting everything truthfully, and what should be done if the debtor does not have the ability to dictate.
– Rulings regarding taking witnesses.
– Allāh’s Perfect Wisdom and how the rulings of the sharī’ah are a protection from fitnah.
– Writing down all debts, large or small, in order to prevent doubt and disputes.
– Textual evidences highlighting the severity of being easygoing in repaying one’s debts [while having the ability to do so].
– The meaning of the soul of the believer being suspended due to an unpaid debt.
– Encouragement to pay off the debts of deceased family members.
– The debt does not end at death.
