All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all creation—and may He extol the Messenger in the highest company of Angels, and grant him peace and security—likewise to his family, Companions, and true followers.
[23/02/2024] Do Not Await Ramadan in Order to Rectify Yourself – By Abu Ukkashah ‘Abdul-Ḥakīm James حفظه الله. Khuṭbah at Masjid Salafi, Small Heath, Birmingham, UK.
Some points discussed during this Khuṭbah:
- “Successful is he who rectifies himself prior to [the month of] Ramaḍān.”
- A warning against procrastinating as it relates to rectifying ourselves.
- Purifying the heart from the diseases that riddle it.
- Preparing for our return to Allāh, and the best provision upon that journey.
- How the means [to one’s du’ā being answered] can be invalidated by not rectifying oneself.
- The outcome of those who prepared for this worldly life but were heedless of the hereafter.
- Crying over our sins, reading the Book of Allāh and bringing ourselves to account for our shortcomings.
- The effect of the Qur’ān upon the true believers.
- Thanking Allāh for being guided and understanding the sheer danger we were in prior to being guided.
- The truthfulness and patience of Ismā’īl (عليه السلام).
- Ibn Taymiyyah (رحمه الله) on the necessity of having moments of seclusion with oneself.
- Encouragement to be plentiful in istighfār.
- Rectifying ourselves before Ramaḍān by making tawbah.
- The reason Abū Hurayrah cried upon his deathbed.
- How the Messenger ﷺ was in the month of Sha’bān.
- The crying of the Messenger ﷺ and his exhortation to prepare for death.
