All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all creation—and may He extol the Messenger in the highest company of Angels, and grant him peace and security—likewise to his family, Companions and true followers.

– The greatest of sins.
– Aḥādīth regarding obedience to the parents and serving them being better than Jihād and Hijrah to the Messenger ﷺ.
– The obligation of seeking the permission of the parents, even if they are sinful or non-Muslims.
– Your parents have rights over you even after marriage.
– The one most deserving of your companionship, and the importance of being close to your family.

– Practical advice to the youth:
– 1. Give salām and kiss your parents upon their foreheads, as respect for them and reward for you.
– 2. Be like a student in front of his Shaykh. Don’t stare them in the eyes; lower your head and humble yourself.
– 3. Let your parents enter a room/building first. Wait for them and then follow behind. Be at their side or behind them, not in front.
– If you are sitting in a room, stand up and greet and kiss them, as Fātimah (رضى الله عنها) did when the Prophet ﷺ entered her house.
– 4. Serve your parents and their guests.
– 5. Keep ties with the friends of your parents, even after their death.
– Look for a spouse who is good to their parents and will be good to your parents.
